Milwaukee or Makita?

I know this has been posted a thousand times and it’s more of a color preference than actual performance.

I do a fair bit of DIY around the house and also use tools for ranch work (fixing fence, tractor/trailer maintenance, feed racks, etc.), not my full time job so won’t be using them 40+ hours a week.

I want to stay with one ecosystem of tools (or mix/match if I find deals) between no more than 2 brands so I don’t have a ton of batteries/battery chargers. My dad has a ton of both Milwaukee and Makita tools and chargers so I want to stick with one if he ever gives me tools or I need to swap batteries, etc.

Is there any reason to go with one or the other or is it just purely a preference? Milwaukee seems to be cheaper with a lot of their products like drill bits and such, but I’ve heard Makita is more durable in the long run. Want to buy something that will last forever (specifically driver/impact drill combo) Deciding between M18 (not fuel) and Makita 18V.

Let me know your thoughts.
