FSD BETA GUIDE

The question gets asked a couple of times a day on what is FSD and how to I enable it. I hope this guide can clear that up.

Key Terms:

Autopilot - Every tesla comes standard with autopilot. Autopilot will do the following:

  • Autosteer/Lane keep - this works on almost all roads. the only roads that I have found it doesn't work on is unmarked (no lines)
  • Speed keep - constant set speed -
    • non-highways +5 mph above the speed limit. (ex. if the speed limit is 35 you can set speed to max of 40)
    • Highways - any speed up to 85 mph(vision) 90 radar?(though all cars maybe 85 now)
    • if a car slows down in front of you the tesla will slow down.
  • Distance keep - set distance away from cars (indicated from 2-7) I believe this is seconds from car in front
  • Does not Lane Change
  • Does not stop at Traffic lights / Stop Signs

Enhanced Autopilot - upgrade in US 6k.add the following functions to standard autopilot

  • Lane changes -
    • Non-highways - The car will lane change with a blinker indicator
    • Highways - The car will perform auto lane changes
  • Exit highway - The car will automatically exit highway exit ramps as needed for the navigation route
  • Auto park - the feedback car will park itself when able- helpful for parallel parking.
  • Summon / Smart summon - car will come to you in the parking lot - I don't trust this love to know others feed back

FSD (Beta) - 12k upgrade or 200 a month. features all of the above plus the following:

  • *Traffic light / Stop Sign control - The car will stop at traffic and stop signs. after the green light the accelerator pedal must be pressed for the car to continue (existing on monthly subscription only without FSD firmware)
  • Autosteer on city streets
    • The car will literally drive itself pretty much anywhere all the way from your house to a storefront on any street type.
    • when activated no user input is required car will stop and go at traffic lights and stops signs, make turns and lane changes etc.
    • Sometimes it needs a little encouragement from the accelerator to make a turn or continue through a light etc.
    • be watchful the car will get confused from time to time but in general, it can handle most situations. you will learn when to anticipate its limitations.
