What should I do (1st year teacher)

I know it's going to be up to me but i want to see what strangers online think:

I graduated college and took an advertising strategy job and then after that I took an account manager job. I did not like either. I was not good at either. When 2020 hit I got laid off. I had always been interested in teaching and decided to do it. I was also looking for a job that had meaning and that I was passionate about. I started taking community college classes on child development and was interested. I loved learning again and it felt great.

At the same time I moved in with my now ex from Brooklyn to LA. I went to school and did a fast track program at a state school and now it's my first year teaching.

I am at a struggling school and it's really hard. The principle changed over the summer. I am a history teacher and I am teaching 3 history classes and 2 different elective classes. I feel like because of this I spend a lot of time prepping and not enough time becoming a good history teacher.

Some of the kids are sweet but the others are so disrespectful and there's NO consequences. That's the most frustrating part.

I think I really hate this job, I am adaptable and enduring it. I am even doing well, I got a great formal observation review and i was just given a positive review for a new discipline training. I also love my coworkers. This is the first time I've been good at a job. It's also really helped with my confidence, I feel like I can speak to anyone and I used to struggle with this as my old jobs.

The person I moved to LA for and I broke up. I don't have so many friends in LA and all I want to do now is run back to Brooklyn with my friends. I am also thinking about going back to corporate, but maybe in something like marketing that's a little more creative. But, If i do another year of teaching I get my credential.

  1. Would it be awful/irresponsible to leave CA without getting a teaching credential?
  2. Should I leave teaching during these tech layoffs?
