Depressing Question: What can a new teacher in your district afford to rent on their own?

Our pay scale starts at $46425

Using the standard requirement of grossing 3x the rent (some places around here do 2.5x or even 2x, but that’s a dangerously high % of net income), that would put it at ~$1290/mo.

Now, my school is in one of the more expensive areas in the district, so while I can find better stuff around other schools, for specifically my area there is literally only 1 apartment for rent for that price, actually it’s $1300 and no pets allowed; it’s not a dump but it’s not a place I’d want to live in.
