is paying for an apprenticeship and splitting profits normal?

I had an interview for an apprenticeship today that went great! The only thing is they want 7k for a year or $700 for a month of teaching while also taking a % from each tattoo I do... is this normal? the percentage wasn't specified but I'm assuming 50/50.
