Child’s SSI, parents ROTH

I receive SSI payments for my minor son. I started working part time and have been reporting the income every month to SSI.

I want to open a ROTH IRA account for myself so I’ll have something to fall back on once I reach retirement age — is that possible? Will my son’s SSI income be affected by this?

I was wiped clean when I had a divorce and won’t have anything to fall back on once I reach retirement. I can’t work full time.
