Faculty member reporting a program to acgme

It seems to be the nuclear option I wish I never had to consider. I have been a faculty member for a surgery program for a few years now. I am a subspecialist and core faculty member. I have many times reported back to the program and PD coupled with multiple discussions with administration that a large number of residents are rotating completely unprepared without any initiative. They do not know their patients, do not read before coming into the OR and are truly deficient from both a knowledge base and technical perspective. They have made multiple in house misses which have led to critical illness and even death in a couple cases over the last few years. They complain about autonomy but don’t even know the patient they are standing in front of. They have now further concerned me by reporting faculty feedback and appropriate (I highlight appropriate due to lack of name calling, demeaning comments, embarrassment etc) reprimand as abuse to the program. The interesting part is administration assumes the faculty members are actually doing something wrong when a large percentage of the residents in this program would have been fired from the surgery program where I trained. I am highly considering an acgme report because I feel the program is not holding them to the appropriate standards that lead to safe and effective patient care. I wanted to know thoughts, potentially from faculty who have faced a similar issue. Thank you.
