Yes, Another Transcoding Post...

...this time with Live TV/DVR.

My bro-in-law uses my Plex for many recorded things, today he decided to try my LiveTV for the Pats game (he's thinking of "cutting the cord" and does not have good OTA signal where he is). He's recording the game but at the same time they're watching it live but out of sync, starting from the beginning and FF'ing through the commercials.

I'd never done this myself, so I'm monitoring the server and the CPU is gettimg hammered, I'm guessing because of the transcoding. He says his experience is "fine", but "can't do FFs very early until it loads or it'll kick you out". I'm afraid to hurt his experience by adding any additional load of watching TV or a Plex recording myself.

Comcast 100Mbit WAN, 1GB internal switched LAN. Beelink Mini S12 Pro Intel 12th N100 (Up to 3.4GHz), 16GB DDR4 500GB M.2 SSD. RAM solid at 40% system, much less for Plex, and the bandwidth is acceptable, with external between ~50% 6Mbps and !50% ~25Mbps. He's using an Amazon Firestick.

The recordings are stored on the household's Synology 423+ but if I understand it correctly it's not referenced until the recording is done and processed, so I'm guessing this is all coming from the Beelink's SSD.

Is this performance acceptable and normal? Is there anything I can do to improve it besides replacing the Beelink with something more powerful? Would it hurt if I started watching a Plex recording (I may try it, letting him know what I'm doing)?

Ideas/feedback appreciated!
