Do people really idolize Patrick Bateman from American Psycho?

I've seen "sigma male" parodies that make fun of people who praise violent tendencies and their concept of being hypermasculine include Patrick Bateman. I thought that was kind of a joke first about how Bateman is a narcissistic and miserable person just like those people, but then I've read some joke comments that how American Psycho fan base is quite sexist/racist. Is there really a significant group of people online that see Bateman as a role model? I can't understand that because Bateman is portrayed as a miserable and mentally unstable person and not intended to be emphasized. (unlike for example Walter White)
