The algorithm is not against you, MAKE GOOD VIDEOS
WHERE I AM NOW: I have submitted by application to the YPP and will probably be accepted very soon, perhaps tonight. I have ~2000 subscribers and a quickly (relatively speaking) growing channel.
HOW I GOT HERE: Even though I thought my old videos were good, I realize now that there are a ton of little things that needed to be improved before the videos would get any attention. I would get lots of "this is hilarious, underrated" comments... but not enough views... which made me think the algorithm was against me. I decided to spend a ton of time editing a few videos in the past 6-10 months and actually decided to focus on other things once those didn't gain any significant traction (I essentially quit).
Well, recently, YouTube has found an audience for those videos, and they have been doing well. I got my last 3000 hours in the last week or so, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. I now have a couple of videos in the works that I'm anticipating will get at least a combined ~million views or so. If not, ball up top.
MAKE GOOD VIDEOS, THE ALGORITHM WILL PICK THEM UP EVENTUALLY.
