Thick Paint Problem

Why does the paint on my miniatures always look so thick? I use contrast paints, sometimes one or two coats straight from the pot and then thinned layer paint for the highlights. But every time I get this "thick" effect. Especially with metal figures. Does anyone have any advice? Honest and constructive feedback is welcome. Thank you!
