Hot Take: Rob Leifield does not deserve credit for Deadpool's success

Leifield made Deadpool in name and image alone but, as far as I'm concerned, Fabian Nicieza, Gerry Duggan, Joe Kelly, Brian Posehn, Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick fucking CREATED him. As in, they are responsible for all the unique and lovable aspects of Wade's personality.

If I had to describe Leifield's relationship to Deadpool, I'd say he's like a deadbeat dad; the fuckboy who tried to make his baby mama abort their kid when she got pregnant, so he abandoned it as a toddler, before eventually coming back into the kid's life when it was older and more successful; cos let's not act like Leifield doesn't absolutely milk the living fuck out of Deadpool. Like, name one other character Leifield has created, who isn't Domino, who's just as popular as Deadpool. Case in point, Leifield intended on Deadpool being a disposable throw away character when he first appeared in New Mutants over 30 years ago. It's the number one reason why Deadpool was designed in look and name to be an over the top parody of Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke from DCs Teen Titans. I don't care who I piss off in saying this. If Rob Leifield had full creative control over Deadpool in terms of both image and personality, the character would not be the pop culture giant he is today.
