nothing about the second movie really gave the impression that the third would be an exploration of the multiverse concept, especially seeing as they were trying to push the idea that spiderman operated on a more grounded level than the other MCU heroes. then, the day far from home released, meme pages all over the internet started posting pre-made images like the one attached with captions like "what if the other two spidermen are in the third movie???". interviewers started incessantly asking andrew and tobey whether or not they would appear in the movie despite the answer being a consistent and firm no every time, and then set images "leaked" including the two older spidermen.
