Is anyone else thinking about aliyah?
I'm on a throwaway account because my family knows my main and I'm not ready to discuss this with them.
I think this might have been fomenting for a while with all the news, but Elon Musk sieg heiling at the inauguration was like a bucket of cold water to the face. I realized that the current administration are Nazi sympathisers, that they have the backing of most of the American people, that Holocaust denialism is becoming increasingly popular, that I wasn't sure how much longer I'd be safe. My mom is in denial about the whole thing and said that politics always swings back and forth and it would get better. I think she's underestimating how far it will swing. We immigrated to the US pre-WWII so we don't have a familial memory of the Holocaust which might be contributing.
I want to finish my degree first so it'll be at least another year and a half, but it's definitely on my mind in a very real way which it never was before. I don't agree with Israel's current government either and Netanyahu has been very cozy with Trump in the past, but at least they don't want me dead for being Jewish.
Is anyone else feeling the same way? Am I crazy?
