Assistant Manager strategy
Strategy 1:
Brentford are top of the league at home with 22 points in 8 games. They’re joint bottom away with 1 point in 7 games.
So Brentford have a pretty low overall ranking of 9th giving them 4 teams they can score a bonus 10 against. If we target top 4 at home we could see some nice scores.
On top of this Brentford score a lot of goals which is more bonus points. Although clean sheet is less likely.
Arsenal h, Southampton a, Man City h could be an ideal run. Potential of extra bonuses in 2 games. And then the away game is against one the worst teams in the league.
Downside of the above logic: Brentford are historically good at home, but the reason they’re so good this year is they’ve yet to play city arsenal and Liverpool at home. And reality is they’re unlikely to beat any of them. So this may be an awful time to play the chip. But high risk high reward.
Strategy 2: Go for a team that’s had tough fixtures so are ranked lower than they should be. Eg wolves early season.
Strategy 3: Go for a team with a new manager. Crystal Palace ended last season very well. Glasner had a big impact. Emery did similar a few seasons ago. Can you find the underrated team that will finish the year very strongly?
Strategy 4: Double gameweek season. 34-36 we should have more than 1 dgw. So you can find a team that plays 5 times. Lots of potential points. Downside is you can’t use another chip like bench boost which is prime for one of those weeks.
Strategy 5: Go for a team desperate to avoid relegation playing mid table opponents at home. Do teams fighting off relegation play better? Some seem to as more is at stake.
But either way, a team in 17th playing teams ranked 7th-12th may have a better chance of winning than 9th beating a top 4 team.
Palace, Wolves, Everton, Leicester could also have a decent end to the season despite their poor starts. So if we pick they’re playing Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton you could be rewarded.
Random qu: Anyone have data on the optimal time to have played the chip last season? And how often it would work out if going for the high risk high reward tactic of playing teams 5 places above?
Final note. If this is too tough just play Draft Fantasy instead.
