Why does this season uniquely suck?
Wanted to generate a thread here to see who else has theory on why this has been such a strange season. A lot of content on this sub and elsewhere on social media like X has been a bunch of frustration and venting about how difficult this season has been. But why?
I've been playing FPL for six seasons now, and it's definitely been the most interesting.
- Template teams haven't really worked or at least not for long periods of time
- picking Clean sheets you might as well flip a coin
- Players like Trent and Foden and Bowen are basically nonexistent
- the FPL pundits that I typically follow have all been struggling and their advice has been shittier than it normally is
- Captain picks have been absolute hell to try to get right
Why I think this season is uniquely different and difficult for those who have seen success in the past:
I hate to say this because they have sucked in so many ways for so many seasons but the game makers of FPL really did a good job this year with player pricing and overhauling the bonus points system and allowing up to five banked free transfers.
The non-league play scheduling being re-engineered to greatly reduced the number of blank game weeks
It feels like we're entering a new era of football club managerial wizardry. From Arsenal's set piece coach trend setting, to an absurd number of substitutions occurring in the last 10 minutes of matches, to watching the wolves play this weekend and the manager watching his tablet more than he watched the game in front of him. The tactical wizardry that managers are applying week to week is greatly affecting individual players roles and FPL point potential. This is not simply player rotation but changing the role of an individual player from one match to the next such as what we have seen with Palmer and son.
Overall, I just feel like this season is the first season in a long time that you can't be lazy. There is no set it and forget it player, no basically guaranteed clean sheet teams, lots of week to week tactical changes by managers.
I personally love it and it feels very disruptive in a good way.
What say you? EDIT: removed the last sentence about my current ranking because people were getting confused.
