Can I live quietly in central(ish) Edinburgh?
I'm thinking about selling/buying in the next 18 months and would love some opinions on what my best options are for securing peace and quiet while still living fairly centrally.
My shortlist: top floor tenement flat in the New Town/Stockbridge or a terraced/semi-detached house in the inner suburbs (Craigleith/Trininty probably).
At the moment, I live in a top floor flat that's about 40 years old. Soundproofing isn't great. Noise travels up through the floor and the hollow walls. It's a build quality issue - my neighbours are super reasonable.
Before that I lived in a top floor flat that was only about 10 years old. It was totally quiet, never heard a thing from downstairs or the joining wall.
Has anyone lived in a New Town tenement? What was your experience with neighbour noise through floor and walls? Do you think there's any world where I put some decent soundproofing down on the floors and had a good amount of quiet? Any other advice?
Has anyone lived in a house in the inner suburbs? Any experience of how soundproof the joining walls are? Are folks generally pretty quiet or is it outdoor garden parties every weekend?
Feels a bit of a sliding doors decision - house in the suburbs feels pretty boring for me, but then flats have been hit and miss and I can see it being another mistake, even if I do generally prefer to be more central.
Sadly a house in the New Town seems out of budget!!
All views welcomed. Thank you!
