Recreating Bayerns 2-4-4 in fc25 (Tactics)
(My team in comments)
Bayerns 2-4-4 is a system allowing them to not only dominate possession but also score an absolutely ludicrous amount of goals. It’s a system that allows you to attack with most of your team, which is perfect for countering the 4213 meta, as they can only defend with 6 players.
I must clarify, this is a possession tactic. So we play with high depth and a lot of pressure, so if you’re not good at aggressively pressing opponents or you’re not good at keeping possession comfortably in your opponents half, this isn’t the tactic for you. If you lose the ball too often you’ll get hit on the counter way too much.
Anyways, let’s get into it!
FORMATION
There are 2 formations you could go for, 442 and 433(4). I find that you can more adequately replicate the tactic with a 433(4) though as the playmaker cam does the role of Musiala better than a false 9 ST would.
TACTICS
Short passing 100 depth
You want to keep the ball as much as possible, so when you lose it, you want to win it back as quickly as possible. That’s all there is to it.
This is more than just a boring possession tactic, however, because you want to score a lot of goals and utilize all the players movement, all the while controlling possession.
ROLES
let’s start from the back. (Will share tactics code at the end of the post)
GK: sweeper keeper build up
CB’s: Ball playing defender, Build up
I find that with this, both push up, but one pushes up a lot more than the other so you at least have an layer of safety at the back. You can put one of them on ball playing defender defend if you only want one pushing up, but it’s better to just have 2 competent defenders. Pace is crucial as well. Sometimes I’m attacking and I get the ball into the opponents box and then guess who’s there making a perfect run to score an easy tap in? That’s right.
LB/RB: Wingback, support
I fucking love this role. And since there is no Falseback attack role I can’t compare, but this is just about how I’d expect a Falseback attack role to act. The wing backs both help with possession and when the ball is in the final third they push up centrally and occupy the spaces on the edge of the box, from there, a power shot to the far post, or whip in a cross, or just keeping possession and recycling the ball.
One more massive advantage to this role is the wide overloads. When the ball is on the left, your lb will go a little wider and your rb will push more centrally, and vice versa. This allows for wide overloads and quick short passes on the wings and then easily cutting it back inside. They also frequently make runs in behind the way you’d expect a Falseback-attack role to. Both players I’m using here only have the role+ as well.
LCM: Playmaker, roaming
RCM. Playmaker, attack
An area of the pitch kompany loves to utilize is the edge of the box, cutting the ball in from the left to the right or vice versa, this is very dangerous and basically unmarkable. Your attacking playmaker will be in a good position for powershots frequently so powershot+ is perfect, they will both also contribute to the wide overloads on the flanks.
CAM: Playmaker balanced
The musiala role. All you need here really is good passing and dribbling. This player will act as a secondary striker when you’re in the final third and a false 9 when you’re in the build up. I keep it on balanced because you want them up the pitch to create the 2-4-4 shape.
LW/RW: Winger, Balanced/Attack
The relation between the wingers and the wing backs is what this tactic hinges on, inside forward would probably work too, though I haven’t tried it. I much prefer having my wingers wide and then cutting in with them manually for a finesse shot or finding passes to the wingbacks or midfielders. Winger attack works but you have to call them short with R1 more often.
ST: Advanced forward, attack
The Harry Kane role. A striker who can pass and finish is all you need here. Preferably with some aerial ability too. I’m using TOTW Mortensen here, which is working out so much better than expected. You need a striker here who can finish all his chances because this is who will be your main goal scorer and also very good short passing and link up play. Long shots on your midfielders, wingbacks, and cam, and crossing for the wingers is excellent too.
