Why rough up the surface of the natural nail?

Hi everyone, looking for input on this. I understand that most people use a soft file to roughen up the surface of the natural nail before applying dip powder to help with sticking… But also that getting dip nails off is really difficult. (I still have my first set on so haven’t been through this yet.)

Does anyone skip the step of filing the natural nail purely to make removal simpler? In theory if the nails begin to lift naturally, putting a little oil or something else slippery underneath would finish the process quickly and without fuss or pain? Would love to hear from anyone with experience!
