So... Stingtails
To start off, I am not dismissing anyone's frustrations with this enemy. I completely understand getting into a mission after a hard shift at work. just trying to unwind. and you know what? Losing missions and all the hard work that went into them is incredibly irritating. I totally get where you're coming from and I've been there many times myself.
Now the part where I get flamed... in my experience, the stingtail functions pretty much as intended. The space program is alive and well, but it seems to have been largely mitigated by the patches after initial release. I've put plenty of time into this latest season and, in maybe 90% of my encounters, the threat comes from either the powerful melee or being pulled into a whole bunch of 'nope'. Getting yeeted back to the spacerig is not a common occurrence and has maybe happened only two or three times to myself personally.
Here's some rapidfire observations and generally unpopular takes. I am well aware of the consequences and I am prepared to be brutalized in the comment section, but this is my genuine position at almost 1000 hours in game:
(1) These things have a huge audio signature, just like most every other priority target in the game. You know when they spawn and you know if there's one in the cave ahead.
(2) The game spawns very few at a time. Yeah, I have totally been ping ponged between these guys, but they really aren't out in force. Just stun or power attack the most recent pull and split jump away.
(3) ...they are not hard to dodge. I genuinely don't understand what y'all are on about with this one. You can weave these things like a trijaw if you are at least generally aware of where they are.
(4) Stingtails are tanky, but they don't have temp immunities. You can chain stun, fear, or what have you until kingdom come and they can't do shit about it.
(5) The armored weakpoint is different but, ultimately, a non issue. If you're not running AP on anything, just power attack their face. You'll crack open that armor plate in one hit and hold them with the stun.
(6) You still have player agency when being pulled. Have you got stun, fear, or AP? Slap them with it. If not, power attack. Still can't? Take the hit and split jump away. The game doesn't end with that encounter.
I don't know. I guess the going can get rough on a solo mission. Especially salvage operations. I just don't think that all the rage on reddit is warranted. Whatever the case, I hope you can still find a good time in the caves and, if that means running a hazard lower than you might have before, there is literally no shame in it. Rock and Stone!
