Review #29: Cento Anchovies in Olive Oil
I tried anchovies for the first time on pizza! I’ve had them as ingredients in caesar salad and antipasto….but I was curious about the classic topping.
I had one straight from the tin and as expected, it was very salty with a fishy / slight umami flavor. I didn’t hate it but I can’t imagine eating these out of the tin normally.
I don’t have much / anything to compare these to; but they seem like pretty decent quality to the untrained eye / palette. I definitely enjoyed them as a pizza topping and will be having them again.
I don’t think it’s fair to compare salt cured anchovies to sardines, and this score may change as my cured anchovy world opens up, but I’m going to give these a 6.2 out of 10. I will be buying these again for my lil naan pizzas.
