Joint damage after cipro
I'm freaking out a little. I was prescribed ciprofloxacin about a year ago to treat an infection. The infection cleared, so it's been my Dr's go-to medication to treat my recurring infections (I've had 4 courses this year, all successfully treated with cipro with no other side effects)
Around about the same time as I started my first course back in January, I started getting hip and leg pain. I didn't think much of it, as I'm a very active person and repetitive strain injuries are pretty common with my lifestyle.
Except it never healed. It's been slowly getting worse over the last year. Even with rest and changes to my exercise, it's been slowly getting to the point that the pain keeps me up at night and I can hardly walk the dog. Now I can't even walk 20 minutes without pain creeping in just taking a gentle walk. I'm going to the same dr about it, who seems pretty clueless tbh. I'm getting xrays and other tests done atm, but so far inconclusive.
But today I stumbled across a post about the severe effects of cipro and it's alarmingly similar to my issue. Tendon and muscle weakness, joint pain and swelling, etc.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I'm really worried that I've done severe damage to my body with this antibiotic. I could be wrong, but it just lines up too neatly... I won't ever take this medication again, but I'm hoping I can even recover..?
