Why is Flux Capacitor a thing

It seems like it exists so people can just invalidate any good pulls or traps and take it to some 60's or 70's no mans land that only the guy using it can get out of. Doesn't feel fun or engaging to me. Like you should have to actually make a connection to make a connection.
