Negative reactions to getting a BC
Edit: I just want to say thank you to everyone who posted. My partner and I have read every single one and it means the world to us that you took the time to not only share your experiences but provide advice and words of encouragement. I appreciate you all so so much. 🥹
Hi BC owners, I just need to vent a bit so apologies in advance for the long post.
My partner and I are due to bring our BC puppy home in 8 weeks and this is something we’ve been anticipating and preparing for three months now. Every time I share the news with people they seem horrified that we’ve chosen a BC for our first dog.
It’s always been a dream to have a border collie, I’ve admired their intelligence and their eagerness to please. I couldn’t wait to train and bond with my own soon.
I know it’s going to be a LOT of work, so although I appreciate the concern, it sucks that people are basically telling us how miserable things are going to be for us. It’s starting to ruin the experience tbh.
Though we don’t plan on using our dog to herd, we have our own home with a fenced yard and are fully prepared to give this pup our 100000% effort in keeping her enriched. But with all these negative reactions we’re getting I’m scared that we’re making a mistake and it’s as bad as people are making it out to be.
Is it really that bad having a border collie? Are they that difficult to have? Someone please tell me it will all be worth it 😭
