Too bright?

Followed the basic method of 3 tone dark, med light zenithal spray with Vallejo bloody red being the base but instead of black like everyone seems to do I thought pink primer would pop more like I’ve done my yellows and oranges. Too much pop? I’ve only done the starter set as a test and debating going back to test model before I’m too invested. Thoughts?
