Cut Federal programs then abolish the IRS?
From what I can gather, it seems like the plan is to abolish the IRS and then replace the money the government receives from income taxes with creating a sales tax of 23-30%. However, I read an article last night that said in order for these funds to balance out, the sales tax would need to be closer to 60%. If this is the case, it makes sense that they are looking to cut or close a lot of federally funded programs, because then a 23-30% sales tax would cover these programs. And my guess is if the programs are no longer federally funded, then the states would be responsible for running these programs. Meaning, they would be privatized. Is my understanding way off base or does this seem to be the direction things are headed?
