What US programs have surprised you?

Obviously US programs especially sitcoms have a completely different vibe to the UK and the humour and characterisation is completely different.

I've started watching a series called "loudermilk" and it's actually surprised me.

The basic premise is that it's a sitcom about a miserable guy who is a recovering addict who runs a support group for other addicts. He's a bit of a prick.

I think what the US never seem to get right is a protagonist who is a prick but somehow endearing and I think they've got it right this time.

The comedy isn't constant quips with a laugh track. It's a bit wittier (but not too dry) and it's quite dark especially with the subject matter being around addiction and recovery.

It does a good job of humanising the addicts and the members of the support group are all pretty fleshed out characters and not just one dimensional caricatures of addiction.

I'm genuinely surprised by it
