[Batman Begins] When Bruce asks Lucius if the prototype bat suit is bullet proof, he responds "anything but a straight shot". What does that mean?

It doesn't make sense to me. Either a bullet hits you, or it doesn't. Did he mean up close? Then why not just say that.

Any bullet that hits you will be traveling straight. That's what bullets do.
