What painkillers did they give me when i was in hospital?

Im just curious as to what painkiller they used give me before meals, years ago when i was in hospital with quinsy. It was really powerful, i would feel no pain from the quinsy about half an hour after they would give it to me. Was it morphine or oxycodone?

Surely it couldnt have been just ibuprofen or codeine - to my knowledge they are only good for moderate pain.

The painkiller they gave me was so good its like i didnt have the quinsy.
