What do people make of Starmer's autocratic tendencies?
He's making decisions without consulting the Cabinet. Raiding the foreign aid budget to pay for defence to please Trump and Dodds' resignation a sign of this ruthless disregard for democratic governmental process. There's an authoritarianism to his politics and has autocratic tendencies in my view. The left will have been well aware of this for some time now.
Monibot makes a good argument to confirm this change in the article which highlights how Starmer has kept in place anti-democratic laws brought in by very right-wing Tories. The crackdown on left-wing dissent and the right to protest over environmental breakdown and Palestine is actually worse and more draconian under Starmer than under the Tories. Perhaps he's just pandering to Reform voters but it's stil disturbing especially for a so-called Labour government.
