Do you consider Trump a conservative?
I'm asking because as a conservative I can't see how one considers him conservative. As a parallel consider Salvini.
Matteo Salvini is a conservative, Italian nationalist and populist. His entire platform is "Italy First." Preserve Italian as the official language, reduce asylum allowances, tighten immigration and promote a flat tax while embracing economic liberalism. He also is skeptical of reliance on NATO and given current events I don't blame him (full disclosure, I voted for Salvini in 2022 and Kamala in 2024)
Trump, to me looks more like Mussolini. State controlled corporatism (Elon Musk and DOGE), biological essentialism (does this really need explaining?), and Trump agreeing with Pam Bondi's extrajudicial confiscation of guns (it's giving Nazi).
I wouldn't really say Trump is a populist. Nor a conservative. I'd say he's a right wing fascist. Yet I often see liberals consider him a conservative.
