How long do Beta Blockers remain effective?

I take 20mg per night of Propranalol. I've been told this interferes with heart rate when doing exercise; that is, heart rate doesn't increase as much due to the effect of the meds. Is this true? I exercise about 13 hours after taking the meds, which are a low dose. Thanks
