Natural disaster cancellation [Valencia, Spain]
I have an Airbnb booked for two nights next week on the west side of Valencia Spain. The area has been hit with terrible flooding, and while the rental location has not been affected, the nearby community will be in recovery mode for a long time.
In order to avoid being tourists in the middle of a disaster recovery, we have decided to avoid Valencia for this trip.
The host’s cancellation policy is 50% if cancelled prior to 7 days (tomorrow). Airbnb said this rental is not subject to the natural disaster full refund exception but the form will allow me to request a full refund ($280) from the host. But it indicates that this would cost the host $100. This does not seem fair to either party.
Is there a way the host can allow me to get a full refund without him having to pay $100?
EDIT: Airbnb has now said that I can cancel and get a full refund due to the circumstances. They didn’t mention whether the host would be penalized (I hope not).
