What should I do next?

Hey Reddit, I’ve had quite the adventure, and I need to vent/get advice about what just happened.

It all started earlier this week when I found a really cool CD radio on Facebook Marketplace for $35. I messaged the seller and asked if they’d take USD (since I only had American cash), but they said no. I agreed to pay in CAD and figured I’d just hit an ATM to withdraw the money.

Here’s how the week went: • On Tuesday, I asked if we could meet on Thursday. They said, “I’ll let you know,” but then later said they couldn’t. • I asked if we could meet on Saturday, and they agreed but didn’t want to meet in a random place or park. Instead, they asked if they could come to my house. • I said yes (without telling my mom), (I’m 15) thinking I’d just handle it myself.

Fast forward to tonight (Saturday). I hadn’t withdrawn the money yet, so at around 11:00 PM, I decided to sneak out and hit the ATM. I’d never used one before, so I was already a bit nervous.

When I got to the ATM, I tried to withdraw the $40 I needed, but nothing happened! The machine didn’t give me any cash, and I stood there for half an hour trying to figure it out. I looked things up on my phone, called some friends, and even tried again, but still nothing. Then a car drove up, and I panicked and ran back home.

When I got home, I looked at the receipt, and it said, “Transaction Canceled.” I have no idea what went wrong—maybe I messed something up, or the ATM was just broken.

Now I’m stuck. The buyer is supposed to come to my house tomorrow to pick up the cash, but I don’t have the money, and I still haven’t told my mom about any of this.

What should I do? Has anyone else dealt with ATM issues like this? Should I tell the seller what happened and try to reschedule?
