Kitbash Question

So, I recently made some vanguard and was wondering how to make the box go further. Would it work if got some guardsman and customised them with ranger stuff like heads and weaponry, as if they were initiates to the admech, so that I don't need to buy an entire new box to make rangers, as its more expensive than just basic guardsmen. Also, I think it'll look cool.
