Small rant about blood thinners
I've been on Xarelto for a bout a year, since my definitive AFib diagnosis. I hate them. I have frequent nosebleeds. These are mostly nusance bleeds, but sometimes they go on long enough (a couple hours) that I end up having to go to the ER to ensure they get stopped. Rhino Rockets are not fun. 3rd degree chemical burns in your nose are not fun. Paying hundreds of dollars for treatment is especially not fun.
Since starting the blood thinners I've had 3 nasal cauterizations for nosebleeds, and I'm getting ready to go in for a fourth. 4 cauterizations in a year is crazy. My ENT says that this isn't terribly unusual for someone on blood thinners, and if my efforts to prevent the bleeds are unsuccessful (nasal gel multiple times a day, humidifiers in every room off my house, etc) there aren't any other good options. Since I'm not having posterior bleeds, and I'm not having major anterior bleeds, doing an arterial embolization in my sinuses is out of the question.
Anyway, it sucks. Blood thinners suck. Getting another cauterization done sucks. Everything sucks.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Rant.
