The weird laughing was WILD last night! i know a lot of times people will laugh as like tension relief but that definitely wasn’t it most of the time last night

Really makes me think about how media literacy is truly dead. What really got me last night was the entire theater laughing during It Couldn’t Please Me More—I was unaware that it was supposed to be funny.

It actually is a comedy number though - it's about pineapples. It's what sets the mood for the audience to be lulled into false complacency of "My Eyes" - it's a similarly silly song that then suddenly turns. Without the actual comedy of the Pineapple song without any subtext, the last line of My Eyes wouldn't register in the same way.

I hadn’t thought of that! This was my first time seeing Cabaret live, and my interpretation of it was that it’s more of a serious song. I shall retract my previous statement, thank you for sharing :)
