how does on campus residency work?

I know nothing about this. So i get on campus residency, i get a room, with a bed and a table, where my kitchen? fridge, shower and toilet? is it the same layout like in prisons where there's 20 shower heads in room and all guys have to share? and 1 big kitchen that's shared between 1000 students?
