L chennai cabs/autos

Yesterday, I traveled from Goa to Chennai via Bengaluru and had to take a cab from Yeshwanthpur to KSR station. We were three people with three large trolleys, backpacks, laptop bags, and shoulder bags—basically, enough luggage to make any cab driver panic. While waiting for our ride, the local auto guys swarmed us:

"Cabs won’t come." "They won’t allow this much luggage." "Just give ₹450-₹500 and let’s go."

Meanwhile, the cab fare showed ₹170 on the app. We ignored the autos, and guess what? The cab arrived, the driver saw our mountain of luggage, and said... NOTHING. No complaints, no bargaining, no shady extra charges. At the end of the ride, he just said, “₹170, ma’am.” That’s it. I swear, he looked like an angel. We tipped him extra just for being normal.

Now, here's my experience in Chennai just a week ago. Took an auto with just one trolley (literally just me + my bag), and the guy had the audacity to say: "Trolley not allowed in auto. ₹50 extra for it." 🤡

Mind you, I had already agreed to pay ₹50 extra over the app price before the ride even started. But nope, suddenly, there was a mysterious "luggage fee." Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I took a cab/auto in Chennai and just paid what the app showed. It’s like overcharging has become the norm here. Meanwhile, Bangalore? No fuss, no drama, just the fare shown on the app.

Why such a huge difference??

Edit: This is not a direct comparison between autos and cabs. The auto incident was just to quote a recent example. I've had several bad experiences with cabs in chennai in the past too.
